Shreya is a Partner in the Technology, Media and Communications Sector Group and Banking & Finance and Commercial Practice Areas at CMS INDUSLAW. She specialises in legal and regulatory matters across payments and financial technology, digital intermediaries, data protection, information technology, gaming, telecommunications, as well as defence, aerospace, and public procurement.
Shreya advises domestic and international clients across a wide range of sectors including e-commerce, fintech, OTT platforms, gaming and e-sports, defence and aerospace, healthcare, hospitality, and financial services. Her practice focuses on market entry strategy, business and product structuring, regulatory compliance, data privacy and cybersecurity frameworks, platform governance, commercial contracting, and consumer protection.
She has extensive experience advising on India’s data protection regime, including key mandates under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Her work spans end-to-end implementation, including data governance frameworks, consent and notice architecture, data principal rights, breach response strategy, contractual structuring, and regulatory interface. She is particularly noted for her ability to navigate the interplay between Indian law, sectoral regulation, and global frameworks such as the General Data Protection Regulations.
In the fintech and payments space, Shreya advises on regulatory frameworks governing digital payments, lending, embedded finance, wealth and trading platforms, virtual assets, and insurance products. She regularly advises on regulatory strategy and compliance under the Reserve Bank of India, Securities and Exchange Board of India, and Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India, including licensing, KYC norms, outsourcing, escrow structures, and risk management frameworks. She also advises on regulatory classification, enforcement risk, inspections, and remediation.
Her telecommunications and technology practice includes advising on licensing and compliance for communication services, IoT deployments, messaging and voice services, and cloud-based infrastructure. She also has a well-recognised practice in online gaming, advising platforms on monetisation models, skill-based gaming frameworks, and central and state-level compliance strategy.
Shreya also advises on regulatory and contractual aspects of defence and aerospace projects, including foreign investment, technology transfer, licensing, and compliance with public procurement frameworks. Her experience extends to public procurement, where she advises on bid structuring, tender documentation, eligibility and qualification criteria, and contract negotiation with government and public sector entities.
Prior to joining CMS INDUSLAW, Shreya worked with litigators before the High Courts and the Supreme Court of India, and was associated with Clifford Chance, where she worked on cross-border matters involving Singapore, the UK, and the UAE.
